AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1: Half-Term Intensive Workshop

Across 10 hours of live online tuition, students will master Questions 1–5 of AQA English Language Paper 1, moving systematically through the entire examination and learning exactly what examiners are looking for.
What We Will Cover
Monday – Question 1: Information Retrieval & Exam Foundations
Students will learn how to navigate the fiction extract efficiently, identify explicit information accurately and establish strong examination habits from the very beginning of the paper.
Tuesday – Question 2: Language Analysis
We will dissect how writers use language to create meaning and effect. Students will learn how to select powerful quotations, identify methods, explore connotations and develop perceptive, analytical responses rather than simply feature-spotting.
Wednesday – Question 3: Structure
Students will master one of the most challenging questions on the paper: analysing how a writer structures a text to interest the reader. We will explore shifts in focus, perspective, setting, pace, chronology and structural development.
Thursday – Question 4: Critical Evaluation
Students will develop the confidence to form and defend sophisticated interpretations of a text. We will focus on constructing convincing arguments, selecting evidence and evaluating the effectiveness of a writer’s methods.
Friday – Question 5: Creative Writing Masterclass
The final workshop will focus on the highest-tariff question on the paper. Students will develop their AO5 and AO6 skills through ambitious vocabulary, imagery, structure, sentence control, punctuation and crafting compelling descriptive and narrative writing.
More Than Just a Workshop
Students will not simply watch demonstrations. They will write, practise and receive feedback throughout the course.
All student work will be completed and marked live through Google Docs, allowing for precise, individual feedback while students are actively developing their responses. Common misconceptions can therefore be corrected immediately, while stronger responses can be refined and elevated.
Throughout the week, students will receive:
10 hours of specialist live tuition
Focused teaching across all five Paper 1 questions
Examiner-focused strategies and model responses
Timed examination practice
Live marking and individual feedback via Google Docs
Guidance on improving analytical writing and creative writing
A clear understanding of how to maximise marks under timed conditions
